The squirrel walked precariously across the electric line. I gasped when his leg slipped and regained composure. All I could think was:
“Why did he take the hard way? He could have easily skirted with confidence and ease on the flat ground-without chance of falling. Why the hard way?
“Why overcommit?”
That squirrel’s behavior felt familiar. I was overcommitted. I was taking the hard way. How did I know for sure? My chest, throat and gut were wrenched into a tight fist.
Why? Why was I taking the electric lines above the breezy, easy empty sidewalk, or soft smooth grass?
I pushed the overwhelming guilt aside and pushed send. I said that two letter word that is often so darn hard to utter.
“No.”
Afterward?
After I said NO, to the commitment that had sounded like a great idea, initially, a giant “WHOOOOSH” flooded my body from throat to gut and I knew I had made the right decision.
“Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, oh Freedom!” from Aretha Franklin’s infamous song rang out! I was singing! I was happy. I was relieved.

By saying No, I gave myself time and space to focus where I truly wanted and needed to.

You can do it because it is the right thing to do for you, your family, your life and your business. It is ok to put you first. It is ok not to have every single minute of every single day filled with to do’s.
Saying "No" is self-care. It is a way to recommit to what you have already deemed most important in your life and in your business.
Saying "No" is a short cut to gaining traction and to faster, more authentic results.
